EXPERIENCE

I have genuinely enjoyed working closely with children and teens for over 30 years. I am a former elementary school teacher with several years of experience working in the Montgomery County Public School System and as a social worker for the Montgomery County Infants and Toddlers Program. Additionally, I was a social worker for Hawaii’s Department of Health in the Child & Adolescent Mental Health Division. I have gained extensive knowledge of the difficulties and challenges that children, teens, and their families face today. I specialize in working with children and adolescents who are experiencing anxiety, developmental and life transitions, school struggles, and difficulties with social skills.

MY APPROACH

I have a compassionate, calm, easy-going style that creates an inviting environment for all. I use a holistic, strengths-based approach and strive for a genuine client-therapist relationship where parent and child/teen are truly heard, understood, and encouraged. My goal is to help your child find and use their confidence to thrive in spite of tough times, using learned tools and strategies that are meaningful and make sense for them.  Therapy isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach. Therapeutic interventions and techniques used in my sessions include Play Therapy (including sand and art), CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy), ACT (acceptance and commitment therapy), integrative (lifestyle/food as medicine), and traditional psychotherapy. Keeping in mind as research suggests, the client-therapist relationship is ultimately the most critical predictor of positive treatment outcomes so reinforcement of a safe place of non-judgement, congruence, and trust remains as top priority.
